Around 8 am yesterday it started. As I put out my daily quote on both Face book and twitter I saw a familiar theme. People from all over were posting their own personal resolutions for the upcoming new year. The term “new me” was being posted more than the usual relationship updates and negative statuses.

It was actually quite refreshing. On my own fan page I started a resolution list where people could post what they want to improve upon for the upcoming year. I’m keeping the list so I can follow up on everyone’s resolutions including my own. The resolutions I received were all across the spectrum. From weight loss to just being more positive the response was amazing. Today is January 2, 2013. This is technically the start of all the resolutions that were made all over the world. This is also the start of the biggest question that Jeff from Wisconsin is asking himself as his alarm clock went off at 6 am today, HOW?

The mystery of how has been solved by millions and unanswered by billions. There are “how to” books for a reason. There are tutorials for video games just so you don’t go off aimlessly failing at them for hours and break your controller. How is a mystery because the world is not filled with problem makers not problem solvers. By problem makers I don’t mean that every person goes around knocking over mailboxes and getting into trouble. (Some do) What I mean is by trying to figure out the mystery of how we bring more problems to the table.

Think about putting together a dresser. The first thing you do (well I do) is look at the picture, look at the 100 page manual, look at the picture again, and then magically start trying to put the dresser together while I toss the manual aside. Somehow you’re left with 400 extra screws, bolts, and other random pieces. Two days later the dresser falls apart and now you’re stuck with an even bigger problem than before.

When it comes to resolutions our problems come in the form of excuses. Remember Jeff from Wisconsin? He had two choices he could have made when his alarm went off.

1) Get up start that new workout routine he promised himself while he was eating brownies on Dec.31st or

2) Hit the alarm go back to sleep and make another promise to himself that he’ll start it tomorrow. The how in this situation is just taking the first step. Rolling out of bed, turning on some music, and getting in his workout. The problem occurs when option 2 takes place, and as we know that happens more times than not.

We marvel at the Egyptians. The pyramids that were built (who knows how many years ago) are still standing today. I saw a documentary on the history channel that explained the complexity of the pyramids. The narrator talked about how even today with all our technology it would take over 20 years to build just one. The biggest pyramids have over 2 million blocks. The mystery of how was solved back then. Someone said let’s get this done and guess what it got done, no matter how long it took. Back then they didn’t have a manual to look at or computers, or any other machinery that we have now. They did obviously have problem solvers and the determination to see it through.

So that resolution that you’re looking at right now, how are you going to make it happen? It usually is as easy as just changing the way you think. Mystery solved go get it today!!
