In such a negative world some might say its hard to be positive. You can turn on the morning news and see murder, crime, poverty, etc before you even take your first sip of coffee. Check the internet or newspaper and its more of the same. With the economy, religous wars, tsunamis, and a myriad of other problems how could anyone wake up with a sunny disposition?

When I was young one of the shows i watched was Sesame Street.
Out of all the characters on the show the one I couldn’t stand was Oscar the grouch. I never understood why he was always in such a bad mood. Elmo and big bird (the happiest characters on the planet) would come over and try to cheer him up and no matter what they did Oscar was still angry at the world. Granted he lived in a garbage can but did he really have to be mean all the time?

Unfortunately we live in a world full of Oscars and not Elmos. I’m always curious how people wake up in a bad mood. You ask someones whats wrong and they say “I just woke up in a bad mood”. Was your dream really that upsetting where its going to ruin your whole day before it starts? Was your pillow that uncomfortable?

When I wake up im excited to be alive, that kick starts the rest of my day. I have an understanding now that nothing in life is guaranteed, so while I’m on this earth I’m going to make sure not to waste any time. Everyone is trying to find happiness. In my opinion to find happiness you have to let go of all the things that hinder you from being in that state of mind.

Letting go of what’s wrong can help you focus more on what’s right”

Are you in a abusive relationship? Do you let others dictate your life? Are you holding on to something painful from the past? Do you not have confidence in yourself? Write down why you’re not happy. Sometimes seeing the problem in front of you makes it easier to
recognize.

Happiness is a state of mind, so doesn’t that makes us in charge of if we’re happy or not? Now during the course of your life there will be some obstacles that block your path, but again it’s on us how we deal with it.

Instead of dwelling on all the negative do the opposite. Focus on all the good things in your life. One could be just having a roof over your head, or a job you love, maybe it’s a new relationship. Whatever the case may be you can look for the positive just as easy as the negative but in the end it’s your choice.

For every Elmo there’s ten Oscars, choose wisely.
